Featured Guest - Monday Morning Singers
The 35 to 40 singers come from communities all over Durham Region and beyond. There are no formal auditions. The choir is open to women of all ages who enjoy singing and are prepared to spend the time to learn, to practise, and to attend rehearsals and workshops. The group believes that a love of singing, plus a willingness to learn and work together, along with inspired leadership, can create musical magic.
The singers’ repertoire has evolved to include many genres, from favourite folk song arrangements to bigger choral pieces such as Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria in 2016, John Rutter’s Dancing Day in 2015, Vaughan Williams’ Folk Songs of the Four Seasons in 2016, and Kim André Arnesen’s Magnificat in 2018.
The choir regularly invites guest musicians, storytellers, actors and dancers to join them to complement the program. The audiences enjoy the variety of musical accompaniment, such as harp, violin, bass viol, cello, flute, percussion, marimba, recorder, as well as organ and piano.
Over the years the choir has become a dynamic community that shares the joy of making music together. The choristers not only sing together, but also enjoy being together and have “meet and greet’s” for new members, pot-luck lunches, and a party after the concerts
